Most residential calls are one of three things: you're locked out, you just moved in, or a lock has started fighting you. Two of those are cheaper than people expect, and we'd rather tell you that on the phone than let you assume the worst.

Rekey or replace? Almost always rekey.
Rekeying means we take the cylinder apart and change the internal pins, so your old keys stop working and a new key starts working. The lock stays on the door.
Replacing means buying new hardware, and it costs meaningfully more.
Unless your locks are actually damaged, worn out, or too low-grade to be worth keeping, rekeying does the identical security job for a fraction of the price. We say this knowing it's the smaller ticket for us. A locksmith who reaches straight for replacement on a healthy lock is selling hardware, not security — ask us which one you actually need and you'll get a straight answer.

If you just bought or rented, rekey before you unpack
You have no way of knowing how many copies of your key exist. Previous owners, their kids, a contractor, a dog walker, an agent, the neighbor who watered the plants — every one of them may still have one, and none of them are being sinister about it.
This is the single highest-value security step in the whole trade and it's also one of the cheapest. Do it in week one.
The part of a deadbolt that actually matters
A deadbolt's strength isn't the lock. It's the screws holding the strike plate into the door frame. Most doors leave the factory with three-quarter-inch screws that bite into thin trim and nothing else, which is why a kicked door usually fails at the frame rather than the bolt.
Three-inch screws driven into the stud behind the frame cost pennies and change the entire failure behavior of the door. We fit them as standard when we install a deadbolt. It isn't an upsell — it's just how the job should be done.
Lockouts, and how we open doors
We pick, bypass or manipulate the lock open wherever it's possible, and that's the large majority of the time. Drilling destroys the lock and means buying new hardware, so it's a last resort — not an opening move.
The bait-and-switch operators in this city do it the other way around, because drilling justifies a bigger bill. If someone arrives at your door and reaches for a drill in the first sixty seconds, stop them and send them away.

What will a house lockout cost me?
Call and you'll have the number in under a minute. It depends on the security grade of the lock and the time of day, and you get the actual figure — including any after-hours surcharge — before we dispatch, never after we arrive.
Will you open a door without proof I live there?
No. Never. We ask for ID matching the address, or a lease, or another reasonable proof. This is non-negotiable and it protects you as much as it protects us.
Can all my locks use the same key?
Usually yes, and it's the most common request we get. As long as the locks are the same brand and keyway family, we can key them alike in one visit. If they're mismatched brands, we'll tell you which ones need replacing to join the set and what that costs before we start.
Is it cheaper to do several doors at once?
Considerably, and it's worth knowing. Most of the cost is the trip rather than the individual cylinder, so five doors in one visit costs far less per door than five separate visits. Give us a door count on the phone and you'll get a real total.
Do you install smart locks?
Yes, and we'll also tell you when one is a bad fit. Smart locks need a door that closes and aligns well — if your door already sticks, the motor will fail at it too. We fix the alignment first, or the smart lock will just be an expensive way to be locked out.
